About the Project
Where this came from, what we're building, and who's behind it.
Gauntlet: Dark Legacy came out in 2001. It was loud, chaotic, and endlessly replayable with friends. It never got a remaster. The original servers are gone. The GameCube discs are scratched. So we decided to rebuild it ourselves — not to reinvent it, but to restore it. Every design decision we make is in service of the original. We're not making a spiritual successor. We're making the game that should have existed all along.
Full Reconstruction
All original levels, characters, enemies, and bosses rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.
Faithful Design
Combat feel, level layout, and progression mirror the original as closely as possible. Restoration, not reimagining.
Modern Polish
UE5 lighting, updated character models, and quality-of-life improvements that don't compromise the experience.
4-Player Co-op
Local co-op from day one. Online co-op planned as a post-launch update. The game was always meant to be played together.
Free Forever
Non-commercial. No monetization. No donations accepted. This is a fan project and will always be distributed free.
Open Development
Progress reports, public docs, and community input. We build in the open and the community shapes priorities.
Alt
Started the project. Handles overall direction, UI/UX, and web presence.
Open Role
Looking for someone experienced with UE5 environment art and modular level design.
Open Role
Need a rigger comfortable with humanoid and creature skeletons for UE5.
Open Role
Looking for someone who can recreate and expand on the original game's audio direction.
